Sew You Want To Learn

Students in my Beginner Basics class with their finished bags!

Good news to those of you who have asked and to those of you who may be wondering… I’m now teaching sewing classes and private lessons at The Sewing Studio in NYC! The Space is wonderful, the teachers talented and the students have been just great!! Classes and lessons come complete with use of sewing machines, sergers and grande cutting tables!

Want to learn how to sew and you don’t know where to begin? Come take an Introductory Sewing course. We start the next 8 week courses the week of January 16th. My class Wednesday, January 18th still has a few spots although my other two sessions have filled up. Let me know if you’re interested.

Whether you’re a first-time seamstress-in-the-making or a frequent dabbler looking to increase your knowledge and refine your sewing skills, this program is the perfect place to start. Introductory Sewing is our most technically focused, most comprehensive sewing course. And it’s fun to boot! You’ll learn the basics of sewing plus how to work with (and adjust!) a pattern. You’ll build a solid sewing foundation (read: be able to sew anything after this!) and you’ll leave with three projects including a custom skirt. We’ll have you on your way to sewing much, much more.

Want to try it a bit before you commit? I’ll be teaching 3 sessions of Beginner Basics a week (Tuesday & Wednesday 11a-1p as well as Tuesday 2-4pm) from January 17-March 7.

Are you looking for a run-through of sewing essentials to get started? Maybe you want to brush up your skills. Or maybe you’ve got a machine at home and you just need some initial hand-holding. Look no further! This one-time two-hour sewing class teaches you sewing basics and will have you comfortably threading a machine, loading a bobbin and sewing straight seams. With Beginner Basics, you’ll walk out the door with a zippered toiletry bag made by you! Yes, all in two short hours! The best part is, you don’t need to bring a single thing with you (you’ll use our sewing tools and all your materials are included), PLUS you get a $35 gift card toward our popular Introductory Sewing class! Rejoice!

You want to sew but 4 weeks sounds better? I’ll be teaching the Quick Start class in two Wednesday sessions, 7-9pm,  January 18th-February 15th and February 22nd-March 7th.

This project-based beginner course will build your confidence on a sewing machine. You’ll learn key sewing skills while you make sassy (yes, sassy!) projects. This course is a great starting point if you just want to dabble, and it’s perfect if you aren’t interested in doing clothes or if you’re not sure yet if you’ll like sewing. (Are you crazy? You’re going to LOVE it!) This course is suitable if you’re brand new to it all, or if you need a refresher to increase your comfort level on a sewing machine. It’s also a great stepping-stone after Introductory Sewing if you’re not sure you’re ready for an intermediate course yet.

So you can sew but need a little push to move your sewing forward? Come take a Copy Your Clothes class with me!I’ll be teaching two Wednesday sessions, 4:30-6:30pm,  January 18th-February 15th and February 22nd-March 7th.

Do you have a favorite skirt that you should have bought in every color? Maybe you have a dress in a fabric that’s no longer in style. In this intermediate course, you’ll learn how to copy your clothes by creating a pattern from two existing garments. You’ll start with a skirt and work up from there. Be a slave to sales no longer!

I’m also available for Private Instruction in The Sewing Studio’s NYC location. This works out best for some people, getting one-on-one time at their own schedule.

The Sewing Studio offers private instruction at your convenience. Whether you have a busy schedule, learn best one-on-one, or need help with something specific, private classes can be booked for any duration or frequency. Private sewing lessons cost $50 per hour.
