You may have noticed that my posts slowed down in October and November. No, I haven’t given up on The MacKay Way, I was headlong into a really fun freelance project!
What was I doing? I was making really small outfits… 54 pieces of clothing to be exact, all to scale but all miniature for Spaeth Design to cloth 11 characters. I never thought I’d be asked to make tiny puffer coats with fur trim, how fun! I was one of 7 costumers lucky enough to work on one of the most famous Christmas windows in NYC. Let me be clear that I did not design these windows, but interpreted the designs sent to me into tiny little outfits. Spaeth was a pleasure to work with to boot! My only regret is that during the window’s styling, some of the detail was covered by a last minute added accessory or a closed jacket. I only wish you all could really see some of the details done by myself and others. Truly beautiful work was done by all, including the stylists. All for the greater good I suppose, right?
The windows opened with much pomp and circumstance on November 14th, complete with Kathy Lee singing with the Young People’s Chorus of New york City and snow being blown as the windows were opened.
It’s so nice to know that windows I worked on bring joy to so many people during their holiday visit to NYC. Seeing the smiles on the children’s faces when they saw the Snow Angel or Santa peeking from the living room. I hope they think of me again next year! Be sure to pop in and see the NYC windows this year. They are really amazing from uptown to down!
