July Gardens Are in Bloom!

Some of you have been asking for more photos of what’s growing at The MacKay Way!

Here are a few photos of what’s blooming in July!

The amazing hydrangeas in my July garden.

The richness in color of this Hydrangea amazes me! It’s all the same plant but due to the pH of the soil, it’s flowering in varied shades of blue to pink. If you want to change the color of your hydrangea, you need to alter the aluminum in the soil. Adding more aluminum will change the color from Pink to Blue. Removing aluminum, which is much more difficult to do, will change blue to pink. For some great information on changing the color of your hydrangea check out this website.

This climber is amazing. It’s called Chinese Honeysuckle. We planted two last fall and boy have they taken off! The flowers and leaves are used in Chinese medicine. I haven’t dabbled with them yet myself.

Clematis is so beautiful.
Our Clematis is so beautiful.

Clematis blooming in the garden in July. The flowers range in size from 2.5″ to 4.5″. It’s been blooming since Mid-June. Being that it’s against the house, it seems to be protected from the sun and rain and it’s thriving! There is a lot of talk about why Clematis can change color over time, but I haven’t yet found a certain rules. There are a number of shades of purple in this plant.

Back into the garden I go. The beds need weeding!
