My Mom and I have been throwing around the idea of starting a yearly Mother-Daughter holiday for a while now.
I had plans — oh did I have plans… Taking her through the Cotswolds in the UK or searching through shops in France for that perfect hand painted needlepoint canvas she’s always wanted.
Then it happened. Merger. Downsizing.
Suddenly, after almost 12 years I was unemployed, in Greenland. Helpless…hopeless…
OK OK , maybe I’m just stealing that last part from The Princess Bride but I do recall feeling that way a bit.
What does one DO after having had the same job for over a decade (aside from building this fine website showcasing my passions)?
Well, to start with, she plans a vacation, perhaps a little closer to home and not so expensive. So now for the POINT of this…
SQUAM ART WORKSHOPS HERE WE COME!!!
June 1-5!!
We’re taking (mostly) different classes so that we can then share the knowledge later. Smart, right? I’ll try my best to document the trip, when my hands are hammering, knitting, printing or drop spindling!!
What classes AM I taking you may be wondering?
Knitting with Matawa taught by Stephanie Pearl-McPhee <– Yep, I’m taking a class with the Yarn Harlot. ***Yippee*** Her books crack me up — ***Must pack books for her to sign***
Botanical Printing taught by Maya Donenfeld <– after the renovation I have some things planned for bringing the garden in to the upholstery.
The Three Tools taught by Terri Dautcher
Start to Spindle Taught by Denny McMillan
AND — To top it ALL off — one of my absolute favorite singers will be opening the session — Jonatha Brooke! Yeah!! ***Must pack CDs for her to sign***
I’m also looking at this as research because I’d LOVE to teach here next Spring. One of my goals is to start lining up more teaching work. I’ve enjoyed teaching the NYFE program for Marist College and some sewing, cooking and knitting classes locally, but I really want to get on the teaching circuit that I’ve watched develop over the last few years.
I’ll keep you posted on that!
